July 17, It is reported that Layard is negotiating for the entry of the British squadron into the Dardanelles. Great atrocities are reported to have been perpetrated by the Christians upon the Mahometans m the portions of Bulgaria occupied by the Russian troops. It is announced that the Russians still hold Ardahan. A Russian official despatch states that the Russian general,, after relieving Bayazid, retired to Gninrie (?) ; but a Turkish official despatch says that, .after retiring, fighting was again resumed with heavy loss to the Russians.
