FOXTON CHORAL SOCIETY.

Jult 9. - The' Foxton Choral Society held their first annual meeting at the Schoolhouse, on Thursday last,- a number of the members being, present. TheJJev. Mr SherrifE was voted to the chair. >The Chairman called upon the Secretary to read the report of the Committee : — EEPOET. The Committee m meeting the members have to congratulate them on the success which has attended the Society's efforts during the past first year of its existence. The numbers of the Society are — Honorary' members, 19 ; wiorking members, 27. The total receipts from all sources are £76 17s 6d. The expenditure amounts to £91 11s 2d, leaving a balance due to the Treasurer of £14 13s Bd, whilst the property of the Society m instruments, music, etc., may be. estimated at certainly not less than £60. •' I During the year we have faithfully kept the undertaking we'niade to the honorary members at the commencement, viz. — that if the Society at all prospered four concerts'should be given, and if practicable, an extra one. These have been given, and altogether have been successful. At first our. "practices 1 and concerts were 'held m the school-room ; subse-' quently, by the kindness of Mr Whyte, we had practice for some months m the large room/of his hotel, and during the latter part (three ; months) of the y.ear, we have had both practices and concerts m the Public Hall. - . . - « - The arrangement entered into by ■your Committee • with the Provisional Directors of the Public Hall Co. having ended on the 30th ult., it will bejfor your new committee to open-fresh nego-tiations-for the accommodation of the Society. • » . In resigning office your Committee desire to' suggest one or two alterations m the rules, and also to point out that -members, honorary or worMng, ceasing to subscribe, forfeit all right and interest m the property of the Society. . Mr Maclean proposed, and Mr Palmes seconded, a vote of thanks to the retiring Committee. Mr Hulke proposed a voto of thanks to Mr Beatty, the conductor, for^the pains he had taken, and the able manner m which he had conducted the concerts. He felt sfire had it not been for, him the Society would not have been such a success as it had been. * Mr'SHEEEiFF seconded 'the proposition, which was unanimously carried. Mr Beatty thanked, the meeting for the very kind vote. He had done all he could for the Society, and he hoped to 'be able to make the next year more successful 1 than the last. . . A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Stevenson for the able manner m which he had carried on the duties of librarian to the Society. This was proposed by Mr Maclean and seconded by Mr Palmer. Mr Stevenson returned thanks saying he was always willing to do-all he could to further the interests of the Society. It was resolved that the proposed addition fo Eule 8 of * the k Society be ' adopted as follows : — *■> .
