WELLINGTON.
Friday. Last" night the Mayor moved m Council that steps be taken for the reclamation of the Te Aro foreshore, and that a special loan of one hundred thoul--sand pounds be raised for that purpose. The motion was carried, but the amount of loan left for future consideration. A report by Chas. O'Neil was read.- It recommended the enclosing of an area of 38| acres, between TaranaM and Hartshore streets, which will give wharf frontage of 1645' feet, and building frontage of 12,000 feet ; depth of -water along outer portion being 20 feet. .The estimated cost is £98,500, and the scheme is intended as a continuation of the Chamber of Commerce sch*m# for extending existing" reclamation to outer T of Queen's Wharf. ' R. J. Duncan has formally abandoned all intention of contesting the election for the Wairarapa, m consequence of not having received the support he anticipated. Some of the Wellington electors have asked Mr Buckley to allow himself to be put forward, and it is understood that -he will do so sihpuld he receive a sufficiently encouraging requisition from the Wairarapa electors.
