The following entries have been made for" the Victoria Racing Club Spring Meeting :—^Melbourne Oup, 114Melbourne horses, and 25& from" Sydney. Champion Stakes, 83 from Melbourne,and 8 from' Sydney. There are 78 nominations for the Victoria^ Derby and Oakes. Metropolitan Stakes, 49 entries. The Government have' not yet appointed its representative' to the Legislative Council. The population of rfw? Colony of Victoria 1 is 84^,877, and of Melbourne, 244,608. .. " Twenty Justices of the Peace sent m their joint resignations, because of a recent appointment for political purposes. The Government declined to accept.
