TO THE EDITOK. Sir, — I noticed m your paper of Wednesday, a few remarks iv connection with tiie Karere Road which would mislead people if not explained, and therefore beg to say a few words with reference to the oversight m specifications re culverts. I beg to state that when the estimate was sent to Wellington there were thirty culverts allowed for, and also a different cross section to that now being formed which would have made a far better road, but m Wellington alterations were made to cut down the expense. My reason for mentioning these facts is because anyone going on that road line would necessarily think a local man was to blame, and although not concerned m this myself, I would like to let the public know that if a man's hands are tied he cannot do as he thinks best, which is often the case with civil servants. — I am, &c, H.
