It is thought that wreckage already found . there is^that of the, JKate Brain, sup^ posed to be lost. ' .' The Hinemoa, with, the Governor and; suite on board, returned this afternoon' x from a trip round the West Coast. She had beautiful, weather throughout; Going into Dusky Sound she touched a rock m about eleven feet of water. The rock is not shown on any chart, but the place is marked as fifty fathoms. One blade of the propeller was broken off,but no other injury was received. Saturday. In the Supreme Court this morning the Chief Justice delivered judgment m the case Hammond v. the Public Trus-: tee, m which one creditor endeavoured to recover from a life insurance policy which Robert Spark Low, a bankrupt, had effected with the Victoria Life Assurance Company prior to his decease. Mr Low left a widow and five children, and the point involved was whether a policy of insurance is protected to the' family from the creditors on the dejafti^ of the assured. The court decided ;ttiat^ it was, and judgment with costs was ; given m favour of defendant. Captain Dalton, of the schooner Ruby," reports that as he came up from Kaikoura yesterday the sea was perfectly smooth m Cook Strait, but every fifteen or twenty minutes an enormous " black wave " came up as big as a dozen waves rolled into one, but without any " face " or break. These gigantic "swells " came up from about S.S.E. The s.s. Tui, while at Kaikoura, experienced the force of the wave, and it carried away all three of her warps. Tuesday. The ship Ben Ledie from London ran m without a pilot during the heavy gale last night. She encountered very heavy, weather running down the English. Channel, and lost four men off her jib--boom, and had to put back for repairs. She brings a number of cabin passengers.
