AUCKLAND.
Monday. In the Supreme Court to-day, William Gibbous, aged 18. charged withindecent assault on a givl aged 8, was found guilty, aud sentence was defended. Peter M'Grafch, for brutally beating his wife, received three years' penal servitude. Eliza Simmons, charged with receiving stolen property, was acquitted. During the proceedings a juryman named Benjamin M'Kerrah escaped. He was fined £3. The down train to Mercer on Saturday collided with a number of cattle, which were killed. The train ran off the line, but no passengers were injured, and it was restored to the line and proceeded on after half -an -hour's delay. A ship and a barque passed the Bay of Islands, supposed to be the Electra and the Emily Chaplain, from London. The ELurunui Hill gold-carrying leader cut m 640 ft. m rich patches. Tlie leader is a small one m the Long Drive ground. The shares rose to 50s, but afterwards fell to 30s.
