AUCKLAND.
April 6.. Dr. Lee will not stand for the City West. A farewell service was given to the Bishop of Melanesia to day. The subscription to the All England cricket fund amounted to £170 16s 6d. The expenses were £210 3s, of which £10 was paid to the Auckland Jockey Club for the use of 'the ground. .
At the Supreme Court, Corwell, for stealing, from an AC at Taupo, was acquitted ; Janson and Gray, for larceny, were acquitted; Boyle for arson, was acquitted ; Pehiri and O. Aid, two natives, for horse stealing. and burglary, were sentenced to 18 months and two years, respectively. • The jury of the Revision Court exempted Foreign Consuls from serving. April 7. Albert Carroll, an old offender, was sentenced to four years' penal servitude for breaking and entering a dwelling. The Alburnia Gold Mining Company has declared a dividend of 2s Gd. ' The district Inspector of Sheep attempted to stop J;he sale. of a number of sheep from Patea, which he pronounced scabby, although on landing the Inspector had passed them. The sale is proceeding, but, notwithstanding, a more vigorous inspection is likely to be instituted. . . ■■..... ..,.'
