The Napier will leave Wellington for Foxton'at midnight of to-day (Saturday). She •will leave Foxtou again on Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock. By telegram we are informed that Messrs. E. and W. H. Brightwell, of this "township, havecnlled a meeting of their creditors, to be held m Wellington, at W. and G. Turnbull's, at 11 o' dock to-day (Saturday.) Mr G-. M. Snelson's peremtory sale by auction of about 30,000. feet of first-class timber will take place at the Peoples' Auction Mart this day, commencing at I'3o'p.m. . The. above timber having been prepared to supply a special order is of excellent quality.. After the sale of timber a useful lot of sundries are to be offered. A meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held on VVednesday last; the following members being present: Messrs Gray (Chairman), Thynne, Liddell, Francis, Robinson, and Cook. A resolution was passed to the effect that the Chairman be requested to write to the Hon. George McLean, Commissioner of Customs, m reply to a letter received from that gentleman. The Board then adjourned till such time as an answer should be received from Mr. McLean. . The steamers Tui and' Napier both arrived m Foxton on Wednesday last, about half past eleven a.m., with passengers and cargo. The Tui left again "at I*3o p.m. Captain Bonner being anxious to get back to Wellington as soon as possible to have his vessel placed on the slip to be overhauled. It will be remembered from our report of the public meeting held at Jackeytown recently, that it was decided at that meeting to forward a petition to the Minister for Public Woi"ks, asking for a station and shunt near the line of roadway leading from the railway to Jackeytown. This petition is now m course of signature, and sets forth concisely, but clearly, the want felt by the settlers of the boon prayed for ; the excessive transit rates hitherto imposed upon them; the comparative uselessness of the Karere station to Jackeytown residents, and the present producing capabilities of/ the district. As a sure sign that the petition of the Jackeytown settlers is a righteous one, we may state that it is being largely signed by settlers m various parts of the district who are m this matter at least thoroughly m sympathy with their Jackeytown ' brethren. . The. Canterbury land sales for January realised. £50,000, for February, £48 < ,000 ; and for March, to the 26thi £63,000. Messrs. Quinn Bros.' crop of wheat, 300 acres, at Waimate (says the "Advocate"), is likely to return eighty bushels to the acre. This extraordinary yield has not, we think,, been excelled m the colony. The "Argus " saysstepsare being taken m the Wairarapato establish a second Masonic Lodge. The present Lodge is situated at Masterton, and the new one is proposed to be located m Greytown. Some little excitement, remarks the " Times," took place yesterday afternoon on the wharf, occasioned by a pugilistic encounter between two lumpers.' After the spilling of a little blood, Sergeant Eeady interposed, and their wonted peaceful attitude again reigned' supreme. Mr James Hedge, the sexton at Ross, while digging a grave the other day, obtained a splendid prospect of gold at about sft from the surface.; — " Argus." News from the Thames. gold-field, which was not so very longago a place where fortunes were made by numbevs of men, and where general prosperity prevailed, is to the effect that it presents a most miserable appearance, and that shops are closed and houses deserted m all directions, whilst grass. is growing on the footpath. A cheerful prospect: — " Grey River Argus." Causes job Confidence. In these days of humbug, and imposture the public. are naturally distrustful of assertion unaccompanied by proof. This is particularly the "case m regard to advertised remedies, many of which are devoid of the slightest merit. But a medicinal stimulant, professionally indorsed and used for twenty-five years as a curative of debility, nervous 1 disorders, kidney and bladder ailments, dyspepsia, and rheumatism, deserves, and receives public confidence. Witness Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Abomatic Schnapps.— Advt. "
