The average of the ten 3 r ears past is about 3,797,900 acres. The difference m acreage for any year is not above 4J to 5 per cent. The average yield per acre is 29| to 30 bushels. The county averages vary from 22 bushels m Devonshire to 33j m Kent. The six counties giving the lowest average yields are Devonshire, Cornwall, Shropshire, Durham, Northumberland, and Hertfordshire. The six highest are Kent, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Huntingdonshire, and Northamptonshire. The yield on 3,797,900 acres, taken as the average of land m wheat, is 14,005,000 quarters a year. Half of this is grown m eleven English counties, namely, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Kent, Hampshire, Sussex, Wiltshire, and Gloucestershire ; and nearly one-fourth is produced by onty three counties, viz., Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and Essex. Yorkshire, indeed, grows about the same quantity of wheat as does all Scotland and Ireland, while Lincolnshire grows about one-fifth more than the produce of those two divisions of the kingdom put together. The standard average wheat production of Lincolnshire is 1,298,01)0 quarters. For all Ireland it is only 620,000 quarters ; for Scotland it is only 470,000; and for Wales, 430,000 quarters.—" Taranaki News."
