AUCKLAND.

Tuesday. Since the Suwarrowembroglia, Sterndale has been preparing to fit out a vessel for an island where treasures are reported to have been concealed by the Spanish. A few days ago W. J. Hunt,' formely a sharebrokeiy and latterly of Napier, entered into negotiations for the schooner Canterbury, on behalf of - himself, Sterndale, Hill, Wilson, Mair, and others, with the object of fitting out an expedition to seize Suwarrow. The vessel had taken m stores and was ready to .clear at the Customs ; Hunt allowed a portion" of the purchase money to remain as a mortgage. A disagreement arose about the assurance, and Hunt went to the lawyer's office to see the deeds of the vessel ; he pocketed them, the clerk pursued him, and a fight ensued. Hunt was given into custody, and information will probably be laid against him. All the purchase money had been payed, but the lawyer held the deeds till insurance was obtained, as a guarantee for mortgage. Henderson and McFarlane are preparing another expedition to hold Suwarrow. A fight is imminent. At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board to-day it. was decided to accede, to the request of Mr Broomhall for any surplus available land at To Aroha. The report re Vessey Stewart's Kati Eati settlement showed that 17 out of 42 families had failed to fulfil the.contract. Stewart requested 10,000 acres at 15s. .The Board decided not to sell under £1. In reference to a petition from the Thames for 10,000 acres for special settlement, the Board urges the Chief Commissioner to bring the matter under the notice of the Government. The. Australia sailed at 6 o'clock. The case, of Hunt, seizing the deeds of the schooner Canterbury, has been I settled, Hunt apologising. There is nothing now to impede the cruise.
