The salaries of the' different monarchs of Europe are given as follows by a German satistician :— Alexander IT., £5,000, a day ; the late Sultan AbdulAziz, £3,5000 a day; Francis Joseph, £2,000 a day ; Frederick William IT., £1,600 a day ; Victor; Emanuel^ £1,360 a day ; Queen Victoria £1,200 a day 7 ; Leopold £328 . a ; day... In addition to this salary, each - of these royal personages is furnished with a dozen or more first-class houses to live m without any charge -for rent. - At; a table-turning entertainment given "recently at Leigh, Lancashire, after the manifestations had duly set m, a Mr Evans, a surgeon, obtained permission to apply a somewhat novel test. He covered the tops of the tables and the fingers of the 'sitters with a coating of soft soap, .after which every attempt to persuade the table to spin proved ineffectual. The result is said to have spread considerable dismay m the ranks of the spirituaKsts who were present. .-'"..
