Noes —Bishops, 2 ; Clergy, 7 f ;Laifrjr, 9. .The motion was. therefore negatived. .'.Wednesday; In the Synod the^jjwle of yesterdays was 'occupiedr m,. aVocBQ^ on the Communicants Rill and Carleton's resolutions. After a long discussion on the second reading of the former, it was carried.;. It provides that any person making and ;. j signing; -a declaration he deemed to be so ; for the purpose of being qualified "for election- to s any. Church office.- The Rill was : committed and reported, with amendments,' and the third reading was fixed for Friday, when the Bishop of NelsonAwill movie that it be recommitted for. further amendment^ A long debate followed on Garieton's* first resolution " Thit the Church of England m New Zealand, and the Church, of England, are not two Churches, but one Church." The Dean of ; Christchurch moved;an amendment to omit all' words after." That," and insert the:following — " As there is no such body as Church of Englaad m 'Ne^ r Zealan'd> it is impossible to affirm or deny the resblntion;" After a very lengthened- debate the question that the words proposed to be omitted stand part of the; resolution was put and negatived. Ayes— Clergy^ 6 ; Laity, 10. Noes-— Bishops,; 5 ; Gler^v, 11; Laity, 4. Archdeacon Maunsell moved another amendment— " That the Churches of England ; and New. Zealand are two Qhurches independent and distinct m government hut qne.ih constitution-and formularies." The Bishop of Nelson proposed an adjournment of the debate, which was lost on a division. Archdeacon; Maun sell's amendment" was negatived oh the voices. The Synod then adjourned^ A
