(From Our Own Correspondent.) * RONCOTEA, Oct. 1. A largely attended meeting of the Patriotic Committee, held on Monday evening, was presided over by Mr A. N. Morcom. A motion of sympathy with Mr A. Jcsffop, in the loss of his son was carried. Sympathetic reference was made to Mr A. Trenkner in bis illness, and hopes expressed foi his speedy recovery. It was reported 40 parcels had been sent from this district ne Christmas gifts to soldiers overseas. A grand total of £570 had been collectcd and sent to Zone E from this district. The dance held recently was responsible for a credit balance of just over £4. The secretary was instructed to write and thank Mr P. Hansen for tho donation of a tea-set as second prize for the competition being held for the inlaid table.

The monthly mooting of the Young Farmers’ Club was hold on Monday evening. The attendance was largely increased by the presence of members of the Farmers’ Dnion, who came to listen to a lecture on matters concerning the health of dairy stock by Mr J. Hill-Molicn, illustrated by splendid lantern slides. The chairman (Mr J. H. Gibbons) introduced the speaker and proposed a vote-of thanks at the conclusion. ’That the subject was alive one and created serious interest was evidenced by the numerous questions asked and answered and tho meeting did not conclude till a late hour. The secretary (Mr G. Pearson) read correspondence from the Patriotic Society asking for the appointment of two delegates. Meffsra Gibbons and Pearson will act. From Messrs FI. de O. Chamberlain and H. J. Lancaster were received letters of thanks. Tho chairman rcporlcd that a field day was to be held shortly on the farm of Mr J. C. Gibbons. Competitions for shearing and stock judging w-ill be held, with a view to enabling members to qualify to enter the competitions at the Manawatu A. and P. Show. At the next meeting, it was stated, films would bo shown and a debate would take place between two teams—Messrs G. Pearson. K. Rcdmayne anil D. Lind, and Messrs M. Lind, R. Hill, and C. Hunt. The subject for debate is, “That tho tractor will supersede the horse for general farm work.”
