DISTRICT PIG COUNCIL.
At a meeting of the Wellington District Pig Council, last evening, Mr B. E. Keiller presided. The Department of Agriculture notified that in the coming season baconcr weights would range from 1111 b to 1801 b instead of 1011 bto 1801 bas hitherto. Pigs of 1011 b to 1101 b would be classed as porkers. It was decided to support the_ following remits submitted by the Waikato and Auckland councils, respectively, for consideration by the executive of the National Pig Industry Council: —(1) “That arrangements should bo* made to obtain imports, at a reasonable price, of molasses, which is of a definite importance as a foodstuff.” (It was understood that tile British Government had made special arrangements in regard to the supply of molasses to British farmers ' and perhaps similar arrangements could ho made in New Zealand.) (2) “That representations bo made to the Minister of Agriculture to urgo the Government to make known as soon as possible the maximum price at which barley would be placed on the market for the forthcoming season.” The supervisor (Mr A. A. Johnson), in his report, stated that the last month had been occupied mainly b,y the weighing of litters for the forthcoming Winter Show bacon competition. As a whole the litters already weighed had been of a. good standard, but there was a noticeable amount of worm infection among young pigs. Litter distributions had been held at Norsewrod, Levin and Dalefield. Further weighings of the pigs in the whey and grain feeding trial had been carried out, but at present no great significance could be obtained from the figures except the effect of the weather conditions.
