VICEROY’S FIRM STAND

(Rec, 1.45 p.m.) SIMLA, Sept. 30. The Viceroy has sent a letter to Mr Gandhi declaring it is impossible to acquiesce to interference with India’s war efforts which would result from the freedom of., speech sought by the Congress. Mr Gandhi has replied that the party is anxious not to embarrass, the British Government, but cannot- deny its creed at the present crisis-hi the history of mankind.
