CIVIC CLUB

The speaker-guest at the Civic Club luncheon to day was Major W:"H. McLean, M.C., V.D., who continued his talk on “Experiences in the Great War.’’ Mr T. L. Mills presided over a good attendance. Vital Statistics.

Births, deaths and marriages registered at Feilding during September, 1940, together with those for the corresponding month of last year in parentheses, are as follow: Births, 14 (12); deaths, 4 (8); marriages, 4 (6). The figures for the quarter ended September 30 are: Births. 54 (37); deaths, 18 (21); marriages, 16 (23). Building Permits. During the past month six permits to build were issued by the Fcilding Borough Council, the amount at which the work was valued being £2457, including two new dwellings.

Territorials For Wanganui. Some 7.0 Territorials left Feikling by train shortly after noon to-day for Wanganui, where they will be encamped for several weeks. There was a large number of friends at the station to see them off.

Weather in September. On the' weather experienced in Feilding during September Mr F. Mason, of Sandon Road, makes the following comment: Rain fell on 11 days for a total measurement of 1.58 in, the heaviest daily fall being on September 10. when the measurement was ,45in. So far this year 23.69 in of rain have been recorded, and this total is Sin short of the average rainfall for the nine months from January to September, inclusive. The average fall for the Month of September is 2.86 in. Last month was a warm one and there were no severe frosts, although on the lower levels a mild frost was experienced and damage was done to tomato and potato plants.
