MILITARY CAMPS

CONCENTRATION OF TROOPS. SPECIAL TRAINS USED. Many troops were on the move through Palmerston North to-day, the concentration of numbers of Territorial unite in the Central Military District including the two represented in Palmerston North —E Troop of the 4th Eield Battery, New Zealand Artillery, and B Company of the WellingtonWest Coast Regiment. With the concentrations taking place in other military districts, large-scale organisation was necessary throughout the Dominion, numerous special trains had to be run, transport organised for those movements not served by rail, and arrangements made in some cases for transport by sea. B Company of the Wellington-West Coast Regiment left Palmerston North by a special train which started its journey at this centre. Captain S. E. Gilshnan was in charge,' and he had with him as officers Lieutenant J. Coley and Second-Lieutenants J. Goodwin, G. Steggles and D. It. Orton, with Company-Sergeant-Major W. H. Taylor and Quartermaster J. M. Penman. At Eeilding C Company joined the train under the command of Captain Johnston, the other officers being Captain Eergusson, Lieutenant Loch and Second-Lieutenants Raven and'. Fawcett. Further members of the regiment were added'at Martou, while a platoon came from Taihape. E Troop of the 4th Eield Battery travelled to Eoxton by rood. Captain j. E. Tasker, second-in-command of the battery, and Captain T. M. Scott, the troop commander, accompanied the troop. There are with them also Lieutenant L. D. Lovelock and SecondLieutenants J. N. Stancombe and 1. C. Young. To day t'he following units in the Central Military District were due to proceed to camp: A Company (Wellington), New Zealand Scottish (Major J. L. McAlister, M.C.), to Spriggens Park, Wanganui; 2nd Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery, Bth Medium Battery (Captain Id. G. Flux) and 2nd Field Company, New Zealand Engineers (Lieutenant Stewart), all to Eoxton racecourse camp; Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment (Lieut.-Colonel L. H. Jardine, D. 5.0., M.C.), to Waverley; Ist Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment (Lieut.-Colonel W. W. Jefferd), to. Dannevirke; Ist Battalion, YVellingtonWest Coast Regiment (Lieut.-Colonel D. A. C. Lilburne, E.D.), to Wanganui racecourse camp. The three infantry battalions are approximately 700 strong each, A Company, New' Zealand Scottish (who travelled by the Wellington New Plymouth express), about 160, and "the three units proceeding to Eoxton racecourse will 'have a total strength of 1000. . . Special trains will be run again tomorrow for the concentration of the Fourth Reinforcements, their entering camp having been postponed on account of outbreaks of measles at various points.
