WOMEN INSTRUCTORS.

VALUABLE AVORK

(British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 29. Some women members of the Auxiliary Territorial Service may be seen proudly wearing the gunner’s lanyard. This distinction they have earned by teaching the anti-aircraft gunners the use of the kinetheodolite, an instrument used to assist accurate shooting. When anti-aircraft guns are firing at targets towed by aeroplanes, the kinetheodolite picks up errors which the unaided e>e is not able to see. The operators of this machine need a knowledge of geometry, a working acquaintance with logarithms, some practice in photography, and a natural delicacy of touch. These qualifications are possessed by some A.T-S. girls, and it is found that they quickly learn about the instrument and make excellent instructors.

ST. HELENA'S HELP. * (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, Sent. 29. Acknowledging £B7O from the inhabitants of St. Helena,.towards the purchase of a warplane for the R.A.-b., Lord Beaverbrook says: “Over a. century ago your island saw the end of a conqueror who challenged the free spirit of Britain (Napoleon) and now St. Helena plays its part in making sure that another foe more ruthless will bo brought to utter destruction.
