PIANOFORTE RECITAL.
MR CLIFFORD HUNTSMAN.
A musical treat was afforded a largo group, of people on Saturday evening through the generosity of Mr and Mrs N. Blaekmore. of Victoria Avenue, when Mr Clifford Huntsman, the wellknown English pianist, gave a very fine recital. Most of those present had heard Mr Huntsman play when he visited Palmerston North for the Centennial celebrity concert a short time ago, and, although the recital had been arranged quite informally and rather hurriedly, the attendance showed how .desirous the audience were of hearing Mr Huntsman again. On this occasion they received an even moro delightful impression than at his first visit, the well-chosen programme giving ample scope to his talents. Tlie programme opened and closed with Bach Chorales, and included the exacting “Kreisleriana” (Schumann), interesting variations all too rarely heard; the brilliant “Fantasia in F” (Chopin) ; a Debussy group, particularly the “Ballade,” in which the pianist was at his best; two delightful Albeniz offerings, including tho popular “Sequidilla” ; a short Beethoven souata. Opus 78, also “Etude in E Flat Minor” (Chopin) by request. Mr Huntsman very generously gave several encore numbers. Mr J. Holmes Runniclcs voiced tho anpreciation of the audience to Mr Huntsman for the treat he had provided, and thanked Mr and Mrs Blackmore for the use of their home for the occasion.' Supper was served and opportunity provided for those present to meet_ Mr Huntsman. He returned to Wellington yesterday and leaves shortly for Suva, where lie will give two recitals.
