FEILDING CATTLE FAIR.

AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS.

Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their spring cattle fair at Eeilding as under:—

A particularly heavy yarding of stationbred cattle, comprising some 4500 head, were yarded, the quality of bullocks submitted being one of the finest yardings of grown cattle seen in the Eeilding yards for many a year. The yarding throughout showed quality and attracted keen competition, the market from the outset for 3 and 4-yr bullocks being particularly keen, these selling up as high as £ll 3s. Well bred 3-yr P. A. bullocks also met with a keen demand, selling as high as £lO. A large yarding of 2-yr P.A. heifer steers was also submitted, and for these the market was not just as keen as was anticipated. Nevertheless, competition was fairly firm throughout and we report practically a total clearance section at values possibly slightly back on those ruling over the past two or three weeks at other centres. The yarding of yearling steers came forward in great condition and created keen attention for top lines, medium sorts being not- nearly so keenly competed for. Station-bred cows and heifers met a very ready market at advanced values on those ruling at other cattle fairs so far'held this spring, the majority of the yarding in this section being taken by Taranaki buyers. A small yarding of dairy heifers was submitted and these met with a particularly strong sale at values firm on recent rates. A heavy yarding of fat sheep, with an average yarding of store sheep, was also submitted, and we report quite a sound sale in the fat' section at values equal to those ruling last week. Store sheep were keenly competed for by outside buyers, these showing a slight advance on rates ruling at last Friday's sale. Eat cattle: A good yarding of station beef was submitted to a keen bench of buyers, and in this section we report strong competition with rates fully firm on those ruling last week. Some of the major sales were: On account of Wm. Wood and Co., Shannon! 3 and 4-yr bullocks, £8 18s, £lO 15s. 11. W. Smart, Pohangina, a line of beautifully, bred 3-yr P.A. bullocks realised the top price of the sale for their age, selling at £9 16s. A. R. Bartlett and Son, Kimbolton, a line of 4-yr. Dalgety and Coy., Llit.. report on the sale, when a capacity yarding was _ submitted to a very large and enthusiastic gathering of buyers from the Wanganui, Taranaki, Rangitikei and Manawatu districts. The quality of the grown bullocks was the best seen at Eeilding for many years: Competition for this class exceeded expectations and we report a total clearance at prices ranging from £9 10s to £l2 9s. The sale of the thrce-year-old cattle was rather disappointing and realisations were hardly up to recent sales. The same conditions applied in the sale of the two-year-olds and yearlings, w'ith tho exception of a few top lots, which sold under remarkably keen competition. The majority of the lines, however, showed a drop of 5s to 7s a head on recent sales. A great deal of interest was taken in the sale of the run cow 6 and heifers; competition was animated and values all round showed a definite improvement on lato sales with a total clearance. Only a few pens of yearling Jersey heifers carne forward, which commanded keen attention and late rates were fully maintained. The total offering was approximately 3500 head, our share of the entry being 1451. The following arc our main sales: Account.—Messrs E. G.
