Miss N. Montgomery, who has been visiting Palmerston North, lias returned home to Auckland.

Miss Ada Cope, of Albert Street, is at present staying in Wellington. Miss Dorothy Toft Law, secretary to Dr. Herbert Sutcliffe, is visiting Palmerston North.

Friends of Mrs P. D, Wills, of Palmerston North, will regret to learn that she has had to enter a private hospital. The friends of Mrs M. Noble-Camp-bell will regret to learn that she has met with an accident which will necessitate hex staying in hospital for some time.

Miss E. Higgins, of Morris Street, and Miss J. Chapman, of Milverton Avenue, are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Houston, of Dunedin, and formerly of Palmerston North.

Recently arrived in Auckland from London are Countess Ouvaroff and Hon. Mrs Patrick May. Countess Ouvaroff, who is accompanied by her two small children, will leave shortly for Christchurch, where she has friends. Mrs May, who also has her two children with her, was formerly Miss Du Croz, of Dunedin. She will stay in Auckland for a short time before going south.

A well-attended dance was held by the staff of Wool worths, Ltd., on Saturday night in the Oddfellows’ Hall, when a satisfactory amount was raised for' patriotic purposes. The committee in charge were Misses P. Kortegast, who wore black taffeta; J. Shirriffs, blue crepe; B. Hepburn, white net; Mrs C. McLeod, black taffeta; Messrs J. Buchanan and S. New. Mr Buchanan was M.C.

An enjoyable dance was given by i B company pf the Wellington-West Coast Regiment in the Little Theatre on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, among those present being Major B. McLeod, second in command of the regiment, and Mrs McLeod, and Captain Gilshnan, company commander, and Mrs Gilshnan. Mr Oliver was M.C. and members of the Women’s Auxiliary Corps assisted with the supper. Many generous I donations were received and contribuf greatly towards the success of | the evening. ~ | The annual meeting of the League of Mothers, Wellington province, took place in Wellington and was attended by members of all the suburban branches, and as far as Palmerston North, Terraco End, Levin, Master-j ton, Carterton, and Greytown. Tho election of officers resulted: President, | Mrs H. -H. Cornish; hon. secretary, Mrs P. M. Cameron; hon. assistant- ; secretary, Mrs D. A. McCurdy; hon. treasurer, Mrs A. P. Young. Ail branch presidents are members of the provincial committee. Mrs A. C. McPherson (president) represented the Palmerston North branch and Mesdames E. Dymock (president), H. ETownshend (vice-president) and O. Speight (secretary) the Terrace End branch.
