WELLINGTON, Sept. 27. Pressure is high to the north, while a disturbance extends across the Tasman Sea from Sydney to Southern New Zealand. The forecast is for moderate to fresh north-westerly winds. The weather will be fair east of the ranges, otherwise cloudy with scattered showers; temperatures mild; seas slight to moderate, but rising about the straits.

Palmerston North and district experienced its best soaking rainfall for several weeks when heavy showers fell last night and this morning. Gardens and pastures should reap much benefit from the fall. The rain measured at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School for the 24 hours up to 9 a.m. to-day was .25in. The total fall for the month so far is l.olin. RIVER GAUGE. Noon, —3ft.
