WAR ELECTIONS

Sir, —Will you please tell me through your paper the answers to the following questions:—(l) Was there any emotion 1914 1918 ? (2) W'hat was the result, Parliament and prohibition? (3) What year did the first New Zealand troops go to France?—Yours, etc., S. NEWMAN. 343 Main Street.
A general election was held on December 10, 1914. This resulted in the return of the Massey. Government and a national Administration was formed in the following year. At the general election of 1914 51.01'per cent, of the votes in the licensing poll were cast for continuance and 48.99 lor prohibition, the totals being respectively 257,442 -and 247,217. The next general election was in December, 1919, and resulted in a victory for the Reform Party. Following the evacuation of the Dardanelles in 1915, New Zealand units, which spent some time in t'he interim in Egypt, landed at Marseilles in April, 1916.
