GENERAL NEWS.

RED CROSS SOCIETY

Eighteen members of the Feilding branch of the Red Cross Society sat for their examinations in transport, last evening, when the papers were taken in practical and oral instruction. The examination was conducted by the society in conjunction with the Institute of Auto Motor Engineers, Wellington, and the papers have been sent to Wellington for marking. The examiners were Messrs C. Way, F. Lowe, and L. RutherfordFire Precautions at High School. Arrangements are to bo made for, the provision of better facilities in the j event of fire at the Agricultural High School. It was stated at the meeting j of the Feilding Fire Board yesterday that the Wanganui Education Board was desirous of a quotation being submitted as to the cost. Mr C. H. Tate (secretary) said that the borough engineer 'had been unable to give the j information owing to the inability to get iron pipes. Mr V. M. Edgar suggested that concrete pipes could be procured; and it was decided to ascertain the cost of that class of pipe.
