FIRE PREVENTION

BOARD’S MEETING

The quarterly meeting of the Feeding Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr W. E. Carthew presiding. Also present were Messrs V. M. Edgar, L. A. Hutton, V. E. Smith, A. C. McCorkindalc and 0. C. Sporle (superintendent). It was decided that tho Borough Council be informed of tho provisions of Section 44 of the Statutes Amendment Act,■*l94o, empowering the council to appoint an inspector to inspect buildings for the purpose of discovering breaches in respect of irregularly constructed fireplaces. Mr Edgar stated that in the cities, there had been cases of fireplaces built in contravention of the law.

Mr Sporle reported that there were still 11 couplings available for disposal, there having been 1G sets sold since the instantaneous couplings had been installed. The treasurer (Mr C. IT. Tate) reported that the credit balance at the bank stood at £Bl 4s 7d, while the receipts still to come amounted to £3OO. It was stated that the last payment of £IOO in respect of the board’s loan of £750 had been made. The loan was raised some years ago for renovation purposes. . , . , Mr Sporle was authorised to- make any necessary arrangements in respect of work in connection with the Emergency Precautions Committee.
