ANGLING AND SHOOTING.

PALMERSTON NORTH COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Palmerston North sub-committee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, last evening, Mr E. G. Matthews presided. The Wellington society at their monthly meeting, it was reported, had expressed appreciation of the valuable work being carried out by the Palmerston North sub-committee' in connection with the scientific investigation of marked yearling fish. The society was granted permission by the City Council to use the pond at the Esplanade for the ensuing year for the purpose of fis'h research. In connection with the Government’s proposal that there should be a closed shooting season for 1941, a recommendation was moved in the form of a protest, to be forwarded to the Wellington council, that there should be a month’s season for ducks and the usual three months for imported game. It was stated that game was plentiful in this district at present. It was decided to make an application for £lO from the Wellington council toward the cost of feeding the trout fry in the pond at the Botanical Gardens. . The chairman reported that the subcommittee’s allocation of 40,000 brown trout fry for this season had been placed in tbe Esplanade pond after having been checked by Mr D. F. Hobbs.
