WATERFRONT HOLD-UP.
INCIDENT AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Sept. 27. Because of a dispute over dirt money on the Canterbury Shipping Company’s motor-ship Breeze at Wellington on Wednesday afternoon the waterside workers concerned were paid off. Yesterday morning no further men would accept engagement for the Breeze, in consequence of which the vessel was idle from 9 a.m. yesterday. “The commission has agreed that these men shall be penalised and has no intention of allowing stoppages of work in a vital industry such as shipping; what form the penalties will take must be decided by the commission when the full facts are investigated,” said a statement. “The action of the men ceasing work constitutes a. breach of the .order of the commission dated July: 6, 1940, and will'be dealt with accordingly.”
