TOBACCO FOR TROOPS.

MATTER IN HAND. A Palmerston North resident recently communicated with the Minister of Defence concerning the supply of New Zealand- tobacco to the troops overseas —a subject in which widespread interest has been aroused. In reply, Hon. F.* Jones states that the matter is already under consideration, and endeavours are being made to have New Zealand cigarettes and tobacco stocked in canteens for sale to our soldiers. “The National Patriotic Board also have t'he matter in hand, and tobacco is being included in the gift parcels being sent overseas/' states the Minister. “In regard to the forwarding of tobacco individually from this country, though it is not possible to send it out of bond in small quantities, such tobacco, provided it is for soldiers, is admitted into England duty free. “I can assure you that all that is possible is being done to ensure that the men are supplied with the coinforts to which they arc accustomed.
