RATIONING AT HOME.
SEASONAL VARIATIONS,
(British Official Wireless.)
(Rec. 10.48 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 25 Although the weekly eight-ounce fat ration is not affected, after September 30 only two ounces of it will be butter. Making this announcement, the Ministry of Eood explains that this is a precautionary measure to meet the normal seasonal reduction of output from Australia and New Zealand, which is always at its lowest in September and October, but rises progressively from November onwards. The seasonal increase of fresh meat 'has enabled the ration to be temporarily increased from Is lOd worth of meat each week to 2s 2d worth. The Minister of Food (Lord Woolton), explaining the changes of food rations in a broadcast speech, warned listeners: “During the second year of the tvar you must not expect to have all the things to choose from that you have had in the first year. 1 am sure that when vou realise that, cjuite suddenly, we have lost all the supply of butter, eggs, bacon, and condensed milk that used to come from other sources of supply—Holland and Denmark —you will agree that during this last year we have had everything we could expect.” Talking of the second yeap of the war, Lord Woolton said: “You will liave enough to eat, but I shall have to ask you to be prepared for temporary changes from time to time; if you cannot have one thing, we will give you another. We must be flexible. I or example, we are now having to bring butter from the Southern Hemisphere instead of Denmark. Supplies will begin to arrive about November, and our stocks in this country are running down a bit, so I ask you to use a little more margarine until the new stocks of butter arrive. Our meat stocks, on the other hand, are really very good, and, while continuing to be prudent, we can release a bit more so that for a time you will be able to have 2s 2d worth on each coupon. “There need be no doubts and no questions that the food services of this country will see os through, and I know that the women of this country will not be failing in care and consideration in helping them to do it.
