LAWN TENNIS

FEILDING CLUB.

Tho animal meeting of the Feilding Lawn Tennis Club was held last evening, Mr C. H. Tate presiding. The report (already published), and the bal-ance-sheet were adopted. An invitation was received from the St. Brigid’s Tennis Club for members to attend an opening day function. “The Rutherfords have been a wonderful family to this club,” said Mr Tate in moving that Mr W. H. Rutherford be re-elected patron. Mr Tate added that the Rutherford family had taken a great interest in the club and Mr Rutherford had done much valuable work at the grounds. Miss Rutherford had been the club’s representative in matches of the Mauawatu Association.

The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr Rutherford; president, Mr S. A. Cover; vice-president, Mr V. Lawrence; lion, secretary, Mr C. Darragh; lion, treasurer, Mr P. C. Miles; lion, auditor, Mr A. R. Miers; delegates to tho Manawatu Association, Messrs C. H. Tate and S. A. Cover; committee, Mesdames W. Caldwell and V. Lawrence, Miss B. Eliott, Messrs C. H. Tate, H. Gicsen, J. Stewart, C. Wilkinson and R. 0. French; club captain, Mr Stewart. Mr Cover, in taking the chair, paid a tribute to the work of the retiring president and regretted that Mr Tate was unable to accept the position again. Ho realised that Mr Tate’s time was fully occupied in his capacity as town clerk and also with work in connection with the war organisation committees. He hoped that after the war Mr Tate would once again be the club’s president. Messrs Tate and Cover both paid a tribute to the record of service given by Mr Crook, one of the club’s life members. He is one of the club’s oldest playing members. „ Mr J. Graham and Mr A. H. Maguire were honoured with life membership, and the president referred to the many years in which these gentlemen had assisted the club and .pioneered tho organisation. They had piloted the club through difficult days. Mr Tate made reference to the loss the club had suffered in losing Mr J. Overend who has joined the Forces. It was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that a telephone be installed for part of the year. Over 20 new member's were enrolled. The chairman expressed his thanks to all who had assisted the club in any way during the past year, particularly the ladies who had provided the refreshments. Musical honours were accorded members who have joined the Forces.
