RECRUITS FOR AIR FORCE
“There has be.cn no falling off in cither the educational or the physical standard of recruits, and the high record set at the early stages of the w'ar is being well maintained,” commented Flight-Lieutenant A. C. McArthur, who is engaged with Mr E. Garadus, director of educational services to the ltoval New Zealand Air Force, at a sitting of the Air Force Selection Committee in Palmerston North. This is the fourth occasion on which the Selection Committee has visited the city, dealing with potential recruits lor the Air Force from Horowhenua, the districts about the Manawntu, and the Dannevirkc area. A total oi 120 voung men are to come before the committee on this occasion, and Flight-Lieutenant McArthur estimated that about 400 have passed through the hands of the committee at this centre since the outbreak of the war. With the numbers coming forward here for the educational classes prior to actual entry to the ground training school. Mr Cnradus said this morning that it was almost ccitain that a further class would have io be commenced at the Boys’ High School A itcd completing the sitting at Palmerston North, the committee will proceed to the South Island Pilot-Officer It Porter, formerly of Palmerston North, is also a memLir of the committee, although to-day. he was unable to attend the sitting. ,
