THOUSANDS OF BOATS.
REPORT FROM NORWAY
WASHINGTON, Sept. 21. Scripps-Ho wards’ foreign editor, Mr W. P. Simms, has published a letter received from an un-named Norwegian shipping magnate, describing Germany’s recent plans to invade England, in which lie asserted that Hitler was reputedly willing to sacrifice 80 per cent, of ail attacking force lor the purpose of establishing a bridgehead. Mr Simms said the Germans had requisitioned 10,000 Norwegian boats, the motors of which were maintained in immaculate repair. They had installed wheels ill the bows of the boats to enable them to be driven ashore at full speed, carrying 35 men. Each German would wear British uniform. The Germans planned to approach the British Isles from all directions, whenever the weather was foggy. Concurrently, t-lierc would lx) an attack by 11.000 aeroplanes. The Germans calculated that the invasion would bo successful if 20 per cent, of the attackers landed, though they expected that 50 per cent, would SUCCCe LOSSES IN PRACTICES.
The vice-piesident of the Armco International Corporation, Air R. Solberg, oil his return from I'ranee, declared that the Germans had not attempted an invasion of Britain, hut there liad been heavy losses of lire from manoeuvres in the Channel in preparation for an invasion. Barges had been sent two miles out to sea, returning for practice landings on the French coast. British planes and submarines were aware of t'he manoeuvres and would await the barges, with the result that thousands of Germans had be-n lost. Mr Solberg was recently at a French port where bodies of Germans were washed up every d&y* A. Dutch lieutenant. Carl Ter Weele, said that there had been many German invasion exercises off the Netherlands coast and many lives had been lost as the result of advance information reaching the British., Some soldiers refused to take part in the exercises and were sent back to Germany with their hands tied.
