WHITTAKER RETAINS TITLE.

The Feilding harriers decided thoir junior championship competition on Saturday, when G. Whittaker retained the title and R. M. Lamberton won the five-mile event for the McDowall Trophy. The races started and finished at Denbigh Square, in fine weather, although there was a fairly strong easterly wind encountered.

Whittaker who won the junior championship over four miles, did the distance in 23inin ssec, and won comfortably from L. Moore, who took 25min 58scc. R. Evans and J. Duncan did not complete the journey.

The Cobbo Cup for the senior championship event was won by R. Lamberton, who secured an early break on the other competitors and maintained his lead to win by over a minute from E. Batten. 11. Moss was third.

The sealed handicap event run in conjunction with the championship resulted in H. Moss winning the J. Symons miniature trophy,, his time being 32min 34scc. Batten was second (32.12) and Lamberton third (30.41). Moss was congratulated on his success, having shown a wonderful improvement on his previous week’s performance. Batten also showed an excellent turn of speed, while Lambcrton’s performance augurs well for the cross-country championship race.
