TOKORANGI
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
TOKORANGI, Sept. 19.
The usual monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, Mrs A. E. Prior presiding, a number of the members being absent owing to extremely bad colds. Among the inward correspondence was an invitation from the Stanway branch to its birthday party. Several members signified their intentions of attending. Mrs Prior reported that the Tokorangi Institute had forwarded six Christmas parcels to the Halcombc patriotic centre. Mrs Cotty, on behalf of the Maori members, continued the practice, commenced last meeting, of handing a parcel to a pakcha member for forwarding overseas. The recipient of the parcel and the well wishes of Maori members this month was Mies J. Rosser.
In answer to the roll call, “The Household Duty I Most Dislike,” members showed there was little about housework they did like and the recounting of their dislikes caused much amusement. Next month, the subject is “Tasty Tea Dishes.” The afternoon was again spent in knitting, the members receiving further instruction in the making of various articles. The completed, articles returned by the members included one scarf, five pairs mittens, five balaclavas and two pairs of bedrocks. The 1 usual competitions were decided. The results were: Best bloom, Mrs P. Royal (pansy) 1; Mrs A. Prior (polyanthus) 2; six entries. Knitting: Mrs Prior (gloves) 1. Mrs M. Barnett (socks) 2: seven entries. Scones: Mrs Prior 1, Miss Rosser 2; 4 entries. The competitions next month include a sponge sandwich and article suitable for refugees, entries to be kept and fonvarded to the correct quarters. The hcstesscs were Mesdamcs Barnett and Love. The members of the institute who participated in the highly successful concert at Marlon last Wednesday were congratulated on their performances. The success of their efforts was duo, no doubt, to the careful and continuous practices held every evening for weeks before. All ages took part, school children performing their games and hakas as vigorously as their ciders. The concert may bo repeated at liunterville later.
Miss B. Prior, who has been on 'an extended holiday to the South Island, has returned homo and, her friends will bo pleased to know, she is much improved in health.
