MELBOURNE CUP
(Rec. 10.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept 21. The Victoria Racing -Club lias decided, because of the seriousness of the war position overseas and the . necessity for providing funds for patriotic purposes, to reduce the prize money for the forthcoming Melbourne Cup from £IO,OOO to £7500, and that for the Cantala Stakes from £2500 to £2OOO.
