However, cricket is almost certain to be played and although we have loot numerous players, we liopo to preserve tho club as an entity and mako our watchword, ‘Carry on.’ A largo number of our members have enlisted or are training with Territorial units and we wish all tlioso members the best of luck. Teams were entered in the senior A and B grade and junior A grades. Congratulations are duo to the senior B team which, under tho captaincy of W. MacCoriniek, carried off the honours iu this grudo. Congratulations are also duo to City on vvinning tho senior A grade and to Optimists for their success in the juhior A, The senior A team performed well, being third in the competition with 35 points. We congratulate D. Spring on his line batting and L. Houghton for scoring a fine 147 against Kia Toa when the team put up tho high score of 420 for six wickets, tho highest of tho season. Batting averages were: D. W. Spring, 25.5; L. Houghton, 24.7; E. C. Barnett, 24. Bowling: E. lloriiibrook, 14.3; L. J. Cockcry, 14.9; J. Jennings, 18.6. The most pleasing feature of the season was the fine form shown by the senior B team. Although handicapped by a shortage of players, they finished first in a keen competition. We congratulate W. MacCormick on the fine 110 which lie scored against City in tho second round. Batting: W. MacCormick, 45.4; J. Donovan, 35.5; B. Clifford, 27.9; G. Northover, 26.1; D. Ryan, 20.6. Bowling: P. B. Trow, 11.2; D. Ryan, 11.7; W. MacCormick. 14,8: B. Ryder, 15.8; G. Northover. 20.6. Most catches taken by B. Clifford, 10. Clifford incidentally took six catches in one match. Junior A: The main objective of this team is to provide cricket and coaching for young players who might otherwise be lost to the game, and to this end a few of the older members have always been included. This policy has borne good fruit. The club has won this grade on more occasions than any other club. At the commencement of last season more young players than usual had to bo promoted to senior B, and those responsible for their prior coaching were amply rewarded by the club's championship victory in the senior B grade. Through having more new players than usual, the junior A team did not fare as well as in past seasons, but actually finished more than halfway up the competitions 1 udder and players had an enjoyable season.”
