Irish Ship Sunk. It is officially announced in Dublin that a German submarine on September 4 gunned and sank the ship Luimneacli in the Atlantic. Nine members of the crew, including the captain, landed in Spain. French Railway Resumes. * Vichy reports that the railway between Paris and Marseilles has been reopened and the bridge across the Yser, which was destroyed on June 24, has been reconstructed. Swiss Interests. A Swiss representative, Dr. Keller, has arrived in London to discuss the food blockade anu, also the position of Swiss chartered ships from America held up by the contraband control atGibraltar and other ports. Potatoes For Australia. Sydney produce merchants say there is an immediate need tor further supplies of New Zealand potatoes in Sydney. Shipments of Tasmanian potatoes to Sydney during the next few weeks are expected to be very light, and it is feared a shortage will develop if New Zealand supplies are not forthcoming. Record Gold Price. A record Australian net gold price of £lO 14s per fine ounce is announced by the Commonwealth Bank. Badges For Poles. A Basle report says a German decree compels all Poles in Germany, male and female, to wear a yellow triangular badge bearing the letter “P.” Tanks From America. The Canadian Government is expecting the immediate delivery of over 200 American tanks classed as obsolete, which will be used for training purposes. Allied Recruiting. In the House of Commons Mr Attleo announced that the Government intended to confer the necessary authority to enable Allied Governments in Britain to compulsorily call up their nationals for military service. Submarine Overdue. An Admiralty , communique states that the submarine Narwhal is overdue and must be considered lost. Spain’s Oil Imports. England and Spain have reached an agreement under which Spain will limit her oil imports to a quantity sufficient for domestic consumption. The agreement is regarded as highly satisfactory. Rationing in Denmark. The Copenhagen radio has announced that a further drastic rationing of foqd is being introduced.
