A new award for soap workers'in the Northern, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago and Southland industrial districts, lias been issued by the Court of Arbitration. It provides* for a five-day, 40-hour week, and covers workers employed in factories, manufacturing soap, starch, candles, soda crystals, and vegetable and animal oils. Provision & is made for Saturday work in starch departments at overtime rates. The minimum rate of pay for male workers over 21 years of age has been fixed at 2s 4d an hour.
