RURAL RAKING. Keeping Down Growth. With a phenomenal flush of feed pro* mi«ccl this season, farmers aro busy planning now how to keep pastures under control, says a Taranaki exchange. Graziers have been unusually active for storo cattle and last week boner cattle were being purchased by these buyers. Larger crops ot ensilage and hay should help to utilise more effectively any surplus of grass, but it is likelv that the mower will be called upon to play a more prominent part in farming programmes this season Te Awamutu Dairying. Butterfat production in the Te Awamutu district is well ahead of the figures for this time last year. In fact, both local dairy factories are considered to bo almost up to the peak figure of last season One district dairyman commenting on the flush of pasture, said he was confident that the season’s growth was quite three weeks ahead of last year. Early Spring Growth. Fanners in the Te Aroha district are pleased with the prospects for the coming season in view of tho ideal which has brought on an extremely ear.y and heavy growth. Pastures are fresh and green for this time of the year, while root crops are also coming away well. Rise iri Cheese Supply. The farmers of the Cambridge district are doing their utmost to comply with therequest of the British Government for more cheese from New Zealand this season. During August, the butterfat supplied to tho Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Coy., Ltd., for the manufacture of cheese was 170 per cent more than for the same month last year. Although the season for cheese commenced only last month, the increase amounts' to 88 tons. The position is considered very satisfactory.
