LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
TERRACE END BRANCH, There was a large attendance at the September meeting of the Terrace End branch of the League of Mothers, held in the Coronation Hall, yesterday afternoon. Iceland poppies, spring bulbs and pansies decorated the stage. Mrs E. Dymock presided and welcomed those present, particularly Mesdames Kemp and Dixon, who had been ill. Members stood as a mark of sympathy with Mrs W. E. Anderson in the death] of. her two brothers. Letters of thanks ■ were received from Mrs T.'Stuart, forgood wishes while she was in hospital, and from the lighthouse-keeper at East Cape for gifts of magazines. Mrs Dymock thanked members who had contributed magazines and papers to be sent overseas. Three items were given by the league choir, led by Mrs j D: Williams and accompanied by Mrs Murray (in the absence of Mrs Andor-I son). Five new members, Mesdames Jarvis, McKenzie, Cotter, How, and Kearney, were admitted, the service | being conducted bv the president, assisted by Mrs H. E. Townshend. The happy thought for the day was presented by Mrs Lloyd. The speaker was Mrs A. A. Williams (St. John Ambulance superintendent), who gave a most instructive talk on home nursing and first aid, and the treatment of minor injuries, with demonstrations of bandaging. Much useful information was acquired. Mrs Williams was thanked by Mrs Dymock and presented with a shoulder spray. Mrs M: Pearce contributed vocal solos, her accompanist being Mrs W. Thomson. She was also the recipient of a shoulder spray. Members were reminded of their turn for duty at the patriotic shop in November. Thanks to all who 'had assisted were conveyed by Mrs F. McLaehlan, who made special reference to the work of Mrs Williams as leader - of the choir. Mrs Murray was also thanked. Mrs E. Thwaites was door hostess and those serving tea were Mesdames S. J. Parlces and F. Lucas (conveners), F. Cox, Glendinning, R. Holmes. J. Holloway, Morgan. Toper, Walker, Wildbore and Whiting. Mrs Dymock made feeling reference to those members who had sons or other relatives overseas, all present joining in prayer. The branch has undertaken the care of mothers of men in the forces as its special war work.
A letter received by a member from the late Flying-Officer E. J. Kain’s mother was read by Mrs Dymock.
