The death lias occurred at Brisbane of Mr Percy Pease, Deputy-Premier of Queensland and Minister of Lands since 1931.

Major C. IV. Kimbell, F.R.C.S., formerly of Wellington, who was reported missing after the evacuation at Dunwirk, is now reported a prisoner of war. -

Messrs G. E. M. Pratt, of Palmerston North, and P. G. Guy, of Pending, have been elected to the council of the New Zealand Petrol Resellers’ Association.

Mr A. H. Guy, of Kairanga, was congratulated on his recovery lrom an illness at a meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu A. and. P. Association to-day.

The president of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association, Colonel A. Cowles, has been appointed secretary and organiser of the Wellington Home Guard Committee.

Mr S. Rayburn succeeds the late Mr W. Bankhead as Speaker of the House of Represent atives, states a Washington cablegram. Mr Rayburn (Democrat) is a former Speaker of tbs Texas House of Representatives. He has been in Congress since 1913, and is 58 years of age. After having' been a resident of Taradale for 37 years, Mr Alfred John Williamson has died at the age of 76. In his early days Mr Williamson had an intimate connection with the wool industry, being an expert woolclasser iand having practised his profession all over Hawke’s Bay and as far afield as the inland Patea and Taihape districts. _
