FEILDING CLUB
Tlie annual report of the Eeilding Lawn Tennis Club states that the year closed with a membership of: Ladies, 45 (46 last year) ; men, 36 (45) ; juniors, 23 (24).; honorary, 4 (3); life, 3 (3). All the courts have been top-dressed; No. 1 court has been dug and resown; the other courts have been resown whete necessary, and are in good heart for the coming season. Ah A gfade team was entered in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association inter-club competitions, but owing to a succession of wet Saturdays the competition was abandoned. Results of club competitions were: Men’s A grade championship singles, W. Boddy; ladies’, Miss L. Rutherford; men’s B grade championship singles, E. Groombridge; ladies’. Miss M. Billing: men’s championship doubles, L. Riley and F. Gover; ladies’, Mrs Loch and Miss L. Rutherford; men’s handicap singles, J. G. Darragh ; ladies’. Miss B. Elliot: men’s handicap doubles, B. Smith and L. Carthew; ladies’, Miss N. Heap and D. Burgess; mixed, Mr and Mrs R. H. Giesen. Mr W. Boddy and Miss B. Elliot represented Manawatu, while Miss M. Billing represented the Manawatu junior representatives. The congratulations of the club are extended to these members. A feature of this year’s activities was the visit of Mr Roy Rowe for coaching purposes. The finances wero not maintained on. the high level of the previous season, a decided drop in senior membership being the main contributing factor. A small loss of £2 5s 5d is shown for the year. . The following members have joined the Forces: Messrs J. L. Webster, F. W. Gover; ,T. G. Elliot, C. Parkes, B. Smith, and J. At. Telford. These members have been all transferred to the special honorary members’ list until their return.
