(From Our O.wn Correspondent.) . RONGOTEA, Sept. 17. The monthly meeting of the School Commitleo was held on Monday, there being present Messrs W. J. Amies (chairman), A. Hill, C. M. Lind, L. Simonson, and IT. N. Rowe. Tho head teacher (Mr W. A. .Churchill) reported . that the roll number was now 82, thoro being three withdrawals and one admission at tho beginning of the term. Tito attendance was being affected to some extent by tho 'prevalence of a mild form of influenza and heavy colds. A school assembly was being bold eadt Monday, morning', and the committee were thanked for supplying a new flag so promptly for this purpose. The main plot at tho school had been planted with sugar beet, which was to be grown for seed, 1 this being part of the School’s contribution toward the war effort. In this connection Messrs J. Mossop and O. Saxton were thanked for supplying transplan tings and bringing them to the school. The secretary (Mr Rove) was in structed to writo and express appreciation. Messrs Merrington and Crosby (Education Board inspectors) and Mr E.'ll. Lange (instructor in agriculture) had recently paid official visits to the school.
, Farm women arc sharing the responsibility of providing cakes and biscuits for soldiers overseas, and recently a number of Carnarvon and Rongotea > women gathered to pack tho Christmas parcels. Tlie number asked for by Mr A. N. Morcotn, chairman of . tho Eongotca Patriotic Committee, was considerably exceeded, and tho surplus edibles wore forwarded to Feilding to ho included in parcels being packed at tho zone headquarters. The splendid wav in which the women of the district are co-operating to assist is a matter for congratulation.
