SWEET PEPPER CONSOMME,

Take 3 sweet peppers (red or green), 2 tomatoes (quartered), 1 large onion (quartered), 2 quarts boiling water, 3 teaspoonful salt, 1 whole clove. Cut the peppers in quarters and remove seeds. Place vegetables in a saucepan, add boiling water, salt, and clove, and boil for ten minutes; then simmer, covered, for one and a-lialf hours. Strain and add salt, if needed. Serve very hot. Approximate yield, one and a-lialf quarts of soup.
