AIISCELLANEOUS CASES
Air •H. P. Lawry, S.AI., presided over a sitting of the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, when miscellaneous eases were dealt with. W. G. Cameron, for being in possession of a .22 rifle without a permit, was fined £l, with 10s costs. D. W. Kidd, for delivering possession of a .22 rifle to an unauthorised person, was similarly fined. H. Carter, N. Stephens and S. Wright, charged with being found on licensed premises at Ashhurst after hours on August 17, were fined 10s each, with 10s costs. G. Grove, the licensee, who pleaded guilty to a charge of selling liquor after hours, was fined £ls, with 10s costs, and E. AI. Grove, who pleaded guilty to supplying liquor, was fined £2, with" 10s costs. Air Lawry stated that, in view of the number of previous convictions against Grove, he would have endorsed his license but for the fact that defendant was not on the premises when the offence was committed. Pleas of guilty were entered by John Kennedy to charges of selling, on or about Alay 15. eight gallons of benzine and on or about June 15 nine gallons when lie was not authorised to do so. Detective-Sergeant A. B. AleikJejolin said the case was not regarded as a serious one, defendant being regarded as a decent, honest businessman. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs on each charge. J
For failing to give way to traffic approaching from the right,' G. E. Tantrum was fined 30s, with 16s costs. J. G. Casey, charged with driving a car in a manner which under the circumstances might have proved dangerous to the public, was fined £4, with 10s costs. For failing to dip his lights when required to do so, C. Ritter was fined 10s, with 12s costs: H. Richards, on a charge of conducting a passenger service between Palmerston North and the Awapuni racecourse without a temporary license, was fined £l, with 11s costs. On a similar charge AV. Tingey was fined £l, with 10s costs. G. H. StutchbSry, who pleaded guilty to operating a truck without a heavy, traffic license, was : fined £2, with 11s costs, j On the information of AI? A. F. AVimsett, inspector of the S.P.C.A., H. Harris was charged under the Police Offences Act with omitting to supply a heifer with food, water and shelter. Air AI. H. Oram appeared for the society- and Air H. R. Cooper for defendant. After evidence had been heard the Alagistrate reserved hie decision.
Douglas Eugene Coughlan, aged 21, and lan Wilcox Alason Smith, aged 21, who were charged with fighting in George Street on September 14, to which pleas of guilty were entered, were both fined, the former £3 and the latter £2. An application by Coughlan for suppression of his name was declined.
