CORRESPONDENCE
LORD MAYOR’S FUND. (To the Editor.) Sir, —I have received to-day the following telegram from the Mayor of Wellington, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, who is chairman of the Wellington Pro'vincial Patriotic Council; “The ProvinI eial Patriotic Councils throughout New ■ Zealand are appealing now lor funds I for Lord- Mayor of London’s Fund. J Our Provincial Council should start right away. I am starting here today and suggest you do likewise.” [ This appeal will, 1 feel sure, need no : commendation to citizens. Jt is to assist those in the Empire City who have suffered by the rutidessness of a barbarous enemy. We here admire the fortitude of the civilian population and the bravery and courage of the defence forces, and we know that these guardians of our precious heritage of freedom and liberty will not lot us down. At this moment they need our assistance. It is not a case of risking our lives as they are doing but only lightening our pockets. Shall we fail them?'—Yours faithfully, T. L. SEDDON, Chairman Zone E Patriotic Committee. Fcilding September 16, 1940.
