FARMING NEWS

FARMING NEWS,

RURAL RAKING

U.S. Wheat Crop. The United States wheat crop in 1941,_ it is predicted, will be 750,000,000 bushels, with 50,000.000 bushels available for export. Although information from _ seme areas is meagre, world production, it is predicted, will be about the same as in 1940, when there was an acreage of 275,000,000 under wheat.

Breeding Stock of Pigs. Although in England ihe reduction of pig stocks has become necessary owing to the shortage of imported feeding bluffs, the British Pig Producers’ Council has urged the need for safeguarding the interests of pedigree breeding. It has been suggested that pedigree herds should have preferential treatment in the allocation of feeding stuffs, and that all arable farmers, not at present pig producers, should be asked to keep as many pigs as possible, which may be fed on produce which would otherwise be wasted. Waikato Stock Values. The present spring is one of the best on record in the Waikato, and, while this has had a stimulating effect on the store stock market, it has had the reverse effect on values or fat stock. Usually at this time of the year prices for fat stock are at the peak, but this year, owing _ to the mild winter and early spring, places for this class have already shown a decline and there does not appear to be tha_ remotest prospect of any improvement.
