PAHIATUA.
j The monthly meeting of the _ Pahiatua County Council was held on 'Wednesday, when Cr. A. W. Bisaet presided. It was decided to make a grant of £5 5s to the Pahiatua Plunket Society towards the upkeep of the rest room. With regard to the question of log haulage on Thompson’s Road, broached at the previous meeting of the council, the overseer reported that these operations had now ceased. A circular with reference to the proposed formation of an Emergency Reserve Oorps or Home Guard,_ with & synopsis of the scheme, was received from the National Service Minister (lion. R. Semple). Advice to the effect that the council’s request for a loan of £IO.OOO for the purposes of the Rural Housing Act had been granted was received front the State Advances Corporation. A letter thanking the council for jts prompt action in having the warrant apportioning the cost of Maintaining the road near Pahiatua to tlid boundary between the counties of Pahiatua and Akitio revoked was received from the Akitio County Council. An appeal to local organisations or individuals for funds on bel. ~f of the Christchurch Welcome Club, an organisation for the entertainment of mem bers of the Forces whose homes were away from Christchurch, was made in a letter from the Christchurch Tramway Patriotic Committee, which was received. Tenders for the erection of Bremner s and Matheson’s bridges were accepted The report of the ranger showed that 2b head of stock had been impounded during the month, the sum of £1 having been collected. The overseer (Mr S. Macrae) reported on the repair work and upkeep of main highways and county roads being carried out. ,
