INDO-CHINA CRISIS
REPORTED DEMANDS FRENCH RESISTANCE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) Received September 12, 9.30 a.m. SINGAPORE, Sept. 11. Arrivals from Indo-China report that the Japanese demands on the Erench authorities are as follow: (1) Three air bases in Tongking, with 8000 personnel in each. (2) Uso of the Cam-ranh Bay naval base. (3) The passage of 60,000 troops through Tonglring. It is declared that the Governor (Admiral Decoux) is 'nolding out against the .Japauese, but cannot do so much longer owing to pressure from the Vichy Government. One report says Admiral Decoux has already agreed to three aerodromes of 1000 personnel and the passage ol 20,000 troops. Another report is that Admiral Decoux has sent throe telegrams to President Roosevelt. The contents are not known, hut it is believed he pointed out Indo-China’s critical position, especially as 95 per cent, of the population are opposed to the Vichy Government and are for General de Gaulle. It was earlier reported from Chungking that the Indo-China authorities blew up the bridge at Shuikow on the Hwangsi border, 25 miles west ol Lungchow. A Kweilin message stated that the Japanese have transferred 4000 tropps from Lungchow to the Indo-China border, also 5000 volunteer Formosan high school students.
